I buy fresh eggs laid by these free-range chickens just a few farm fields up the road from my home. How's that for food miles? Den (Denise) knows a thing or two about keeping healthy hens. When I asked her permission to photograph them she was beginning another of her busy days down on the farm. I told her about the recent Salmonella scare in America. We both remembered the infamous "Edwina Curry" incident here in the UK. Den's hens were managed safely then, as they are now.

Den's hens
