They say that moving house materialises some of those things which were hitherto lost. In my experience that’s been true, balancing, I hope, several of those items which have dematerialised during the same upheaval, although, weirdly, one of the kitchen cupboards here seems to have become a fast-breeder vessel for tins of pulses, none of which I remember actually buying. Inexplicable events like this underline exactly why I never did trust that rather too frequently faulty Star Trek Transporter Room technology installed on The Starship Enterprise.
Over the years, I’ve been collecting the series of little books illustrated by Michael Nobbs’ undeniably individual drawing style. It is Beany #3 which contains the seventy-five suggestions on how to draw more, the ones I visited again a short while ago. That same volume popped up, duplicated, on my bookshelves recently. A timely recovery, since Michael, on his blog, has been giving away a limited number of them. So I’ve decided to do the same: here is a chance for just one reader of Light and Shade to receive my surplus copy, free of charge. All you have to do is comment on this post, adding your very own 76th item in the aforementioned list. Said list is available as a download over at Michael’s virtual place, on “The Blog”.
I’ll be the judge. My decision will be final. Well, it’s my blog, and anyway, I’ve always wanted to say that. I’ll let the lucky winner know after a decent interval, when I’ll also add a spam-free way for that person to be able to e-mail me their postal address.

76. After you've developed your film (you do remember what film is) select one good picture and draw it! Post the original picture and the hand drawn one on your blog.
Alternative: For those of you who shoot digitally (yes, I've just joined the ranks myself), consider sketching one of the last 25 pictures you made.

76. decide which is your best piece, copy it and glue it to the wall somewhere you regularly come by - streetart!

76. Next time you go out for fast food, sit facing the counter and draw one of the cashiers. They spend a lot of time facing in the same direction talking to customers, so they should make OK models.
(I'd draw customers, but I think it would seem creepy to keep staring at somebody trying to eat their lunch. Staring at the cashiers and counter area seems less weird.)

76. The next time you travel, buy a post card for a friend. Instead of writing a brief note, draw a picture of something you did on your trip (unless it was illegal or too naughty to send through the postal service!).

draw your unmade bed. then make it and draw that just before you lie down in it to take a nap. if you're really driven, draw yourself waking up ;)

Thank you to all of you who took part in this competition.
The winner is Kristy Tolley, whose idea appealed to me because I believe that, as artists, we should share our work with others, as freely and as often as we can.
So, Kristy, if you will e-mail your postal address to me from the contact link on my website (www.brypix.com), I will send you your prize, namely my spare copy of Beany #3.

Congratulations Kristy! I too like your idea of drawing something on a postcard rather than merely writing something. Job well done.
